    Bought on 24.05.2014...after just over 3 years 2 of 4 discs defective.

    I have never had such a thing with hard drives. I bought the Synology DS412+ with 4 WD Red (3000GB, 3.5", NAS) in 2014.
    No sooner has the bring-in warranty expired than the Diskstation reports I/O errors on 2 hard drives.     One has crashed status and the other system partitioning failed.

    Have had 4 for over a year in 24/7 continuous operation....

    I have had 4 of them for over a year in 24/7 continuous operation (NAS). They run flawlessly and without errors.

    I had them sent by post. :)

    Update 06.04.2020:
    All 4 hard drives have now been running 24/7 for 7 years     and none have failed yet. Top!

    I have had 10 of these HDDs for up to 10 ...

    I have been using 10 of these HDDs for up to 10 months. 1 of them failed after 3 months and was replaced by digitec without any problems, the others work without any problems, are very quiet, do not get warmer than 30°C in continuous operation and are fast enough for streaming.

    Western Digital (and thus also digitec) grants a 3-year warranty for the WD Red (I wouldn't believe everything a seller says), 5 years are only available for the WD Red Pro.
