    Powerful, practical, good price

Bought SSD as archive for my iMac, on the NAS station 2 hard drives each defined as Raid-1 (mirrored) for my documents/projects (1+2) and pictures (3+4, without TimeMachine).

I stored all my data, with the exception of
the applications, for 2-4 years via Thunderbolt Belkin Dock twice on two independent external 4 TB HDs. I regularly replaced the Apple TimeMachine HDs (3 TB or 4 TB) as programme and other data archives when the memory had reached around 80% of its capacity. Another external SSD flash memory was used as a temporary repository. This resulted in a corresponding cable tangle, which the Synology Station now reduces.

Because my previous network with better ConnectBox and modern Airport Extreme had to be reconfigured and previous devices needed a factory reset, the initial installation was a bit tedious for me as a newcomer of senior age. However, this is well supported by online assistants. However, everything went without support and it is always good to learn something new and acquire new technologies.

The data transfer via the WLAN is not as fast as via the Thunderbolt or USB interfaces to external disks, but - probably thanks to the QuadCore processor and 8 GB memory of the Synology Station - fully meets my requirements. A test with a 10 GB project folder resulted in the following transfer times from an iMac SSD to an external USB-3 flash storage (SSD) 53 seconds, to the Synology Station via LAN 92 seconds, via WLAN 162 seconds. Since the NAS station is expandable, I am already thinking about storing the TimeMachine there as well.

If there is a hard disk problem, there is a comprehensive guide on how to replace the corresponding HD depending on the RAID setting.

It is also practical that when the storage capacity is reached, the hard disks can be easily replaced with inexpensive, compatible HDs.
