For us it is the ideal TV

Super device. I have a long "evaluation phase" behind me, whereby I had always favoured Philips devices with Ambilight at first.
I ordered the Philips 49PUS7803/12, but it was a disastrous disappointment. The picture and
sound were terrible, my two 8-year-old TVs were much better.
So I looked for something else. LG and Sony remained in the final selection because I didn't like Samsung's OS (I already have several Samsung sets, and the software is buggy on all of them).
In the end, the OS was the deciding factor for the Sony, because the LG runs "WebOS", which is only used by LG, whereas the Sony runs AndroidTV 7, which is more appealing to me in terms of operation.

There is absolutely nothing to criticise about the picture. Both UHD (of course), but also HD and SD content look simply impeccable. No "over-sharpening", no unnatural colour representation, no glaring glare. Simply a very pleasant, natural picture (I set the picture preset to "Expert 1").
The sound is also very good. You can really hear the difference to a TV with bottom-mounted speakers. The sound really comes directly from the screen. However, my wife (not very tech-savvy, but with excellent hearing) soon complained about the somewhat weak mid-range and I have to agree with her. Trebles and basses are rich and clear, and the mids are a little thin. But that's complaining at a very high level and you can "fix" the problem with the equalizer. So far, I've only heard better sound from the LG OLED 55E7 (unfortunately, the LG 2018s are not yet in shops).
I also find the operation and the setting options very good and intuitive. Most actions are very fast, only the picture and sound menu are strangely delayed.

Conclusion: For us, it is the ideal TV because we always watch TV in dimmed ambient light and therefore do not need peak brightness.

    Buy people, buy!

Simply awesome. It replaced my eight-year-old Full HD 32" TV. Now watching movies is like watching things happen in real life in front of your eyes. Everything looks so realistic, as if you were looking outside through a window. The fact that it has no speakers and is comparatively large, so that you only see the picture when you look, reinforces the impression. The AF-9 may be better on the page (more optimisation calculations, Netflix mode, etc.), but I don't think you really benefit from it. The image of the AF-8 is compare with my own photos (taken with a Sony Alpha 6500 and >>Zeiss<< Touit 12mm) exactly as I have seen it in real - and above all new just as contrasty and sharp. What more could you want? True-to-life images.

    Pro

    • Simply everything

    Contra

    • Typical Sony lacks a bit of boom in the sound
