To complement my Canon SLR, I bought the RX1...

In addition to my Canon SLR, I bought the RX100 as a travel cam. Today the first contact was made:

    + Camera feels good.
+ Images at dusk work very well with HDR.
+ Pictures in normal light very good.
    + First impression
    very positive.
+ Offer with camera bag is very good (thanks Digitec).

+/- Adjustment ring on the lens is nice, but a bit stiff to operate with one finger.
+/- The flush buttons are relatively easy to feel, but take some getting used to.
+/- I don't like charging via USB cable. The only advantage is that the cam is charged while the pictures are being copied.
+/- The connector covers are very fine and how long can it be opened and closed for charging? I ordered the BC-TRX charger with the second battery.

    - The trigger should be placed a little further out.
    - The stabiliser indicator warns quickly and often, which is a bit annoying. Only time will tell if it is right.
    - The panorama photo functions moderately (stops and steps if too fast, if slow only a small area, as the cam does not take infinite pictures).

    Info:
    1) No CD included.
    2) No adapter necessary for SD cards (I came across contrary information during my research).
    3) Hand strap can be attached on the left and right (has 2 eyelets for a carrying strap).

    OUT OF FOCUS:
A thought to the previous speakers on the rating: American agencies are rating the whole world, but who is rating the Americans...? This is definitely out of focus but still worth a thought ;-)

    100 points

The coolest camera I've ever had. Photos absolute top quality, even in low light and without flash. Can almost keep up with an SLR camera!

When travelling without a DSLR, now the main camera (previously C...

On trips without DSLR now the main camera (previously Canon 260 HS - this is still there for the very good and large telephoto range, also the 310 HS for the very good image quality at 24mm - with these three cameras I only miss the 7d in rare cases such as difficult action shots, bird flight shots etc.).
The image quality up to 200 ISO is simply outstanding - certainly comparable or even better than with the 7d and the 17-55 2.8 IS lens (more noise at pixel level, but this at 20 MP, i.e. at the same magnification of the detail the noise is not so noticeable). I.e. probably better image quality than with most DSLRs with kit lens.

I can't give a definite assessment as far as higher ISO settings are concerned, but without being able to compare directly, the pictures are surprisingly good up to 1600 ISO.
The many partly amazingly useful setting options - much more than with the Canon compact cameras - are surprisingly quickly at hand, you just have to know how to reach them, but this can be found out very quickly, as everything is very logical. For example, in manual modes, the autofocus area can be moved manually by pressing the central set button - very handy.
The panorama panning function is nice. By holding the camera up and adjusting the pan direction accordingly (up or down), you can create great panoramas that are not so "narrow" in height.
