The camera is small, durable, solidly built and takes good pictures. It is not designed for point&shoot. With WiFi direct, photos can be easily transferred to a tablet. The optical zoom is not disappointing either. It is easy to operate with large hands. If you are looking for a good product at a fair price, this camera should be on your shortlist. In my opinion, Sony has rightly received the EISA award with the DSC-HX90V.

The camera is light, small and handy and produces good pictures with high resolution. It has a considerable range of settings for such a compact camera. The operation corresponds to comparable cameras of other brands.
However, a thorough study of the operating instructions is recommended so that even less experienced users can make full use of all the possibilities. For example, the colour and contrast reproduction can be adjusted to suit the requirements. In the factory setting, it produces rather colourful images with somewhat increased intensity.
It also has a viewfinder, which can be very useful when the monitor is difficult to see in high ambient light. The image seen in the viewfinder corresponds as closely as possible to the actual image. The fact that the viewfinder is somewhat small is due to the compact design.
It would be desirable if the monitor, which can be folded up, could be folded out to other positions.
The connection for image transfer via cable is somewhat impractical, because connecting via the very small plug of the USB cable is somewhat difficult.

Handy camera with the functions I need as a hobby and holiday photographer.
Apart from all the many possibilities provided by the programmes and the automatic, the only function I miss so far is that I could mark an object with the centre and then move the camera so that the object still remains in focus but no longer has to be in the centre. (Maybe I will find this later)
There is certainly a lot that can be tried and done with the special programmes that I haven't found time for so far.
Compared to previous models from other brands, I like the fact that the flash is recessed and doesn't fire when I don't want it to. (In the past, you could forget to turn off the flash after rebooting).
In addition, the "see-through viewfinder" function like on SLR cameras is optimal when sunlight makes the screen unkable. (It also works against the light and the zoom function remains active).
On other models, the screen can be folded out and then tilted. This allows the camera to be held low and to look at the screen from above, so that photographs can be taken more inconspicuously. This works very well with this camera.
However, when I stand in a crowd and hold the camera upwards, I cannot see what is on the screen from below. One of the earlier cameras could do that.
Wifi and GPS - advantages I haven't tried yet, but I imagine that I can put the camera on the tripod and then trigger it with the phone.
Later I want to group the photos on an electronic map so I can see where they were taken. (Some of the photos don't have GPS entries though, why I don't know yet).
