I treated myself to this expensive gem, relatively unsure of what to expect. I use this in conjunction with my Beyerdynamic mmx 300 / AKG 712, mainly for gaming. This external sound card doesn't allow for any manual adjustments, as everything is pre-programmed. However, this also makes it extremely easy as I can select one of the 3 programs (Gaming, Movie, Music) with a tap on the settings button. The differences are definitely audible and the settings are well preset.
The preset for gaming massively reduces the bass and puts everything more on the treble range. This allows a good localization of the sounds. Using the shooter "Devision" as an example, I can easily hear people walking, talking or whatever to the left, right or behind me. Even the crackling of a newspaper coming from behind through the wind can be heard. It is important that 7.1 is set, which can also be done directly by tapping the surface.
Even though I don't have a direct comparison to other products, I find it really great for this area of use. I also find it great that you can simply add your own voice when using the mic headset. This is also done simply by tapping the surface, in the levels Off/+/++. Especially with the MMX 300, which is extremely isolated, this is a great thing.
I can also recommend the device for listening to music.

Absolutely the most brilliant sound I have ever had on a PC. No more driver and software fiddling. Top sound, good workmanship. 1A

I agree with the previous speaker on all points. Perhaps something about the sound quality:
I also use the MMX 300 from Beyerdynamic. The sound quality for gaming and listening to music is really very good and 7.1 also works great. For comparison, I have an audio interface from Native Instruments (Komplete Audio 6), which has a slightly better resolution. So you don't get a hi-fi DAC with the GSX 1000 but the sound is still better than most onboard sound cards. So listening to music and gaming is definitely fun.
Recording quality:
For in-game communication and Teamspeak etc., the GSX 1000's mic-in is perfectly adequate. Voice recordings also work relatively well and without annoying noise. However, the GSX 1000 is not suitable for "Let's Players" or similar who want the best recording quality. The GSX 1000 does not quite live up to the (small) condenser mic of the MMX 300 from Beyerdynamic. So the mic-in of the GSX 1000 is good in the sense of "no noise", but the recording quality could be clearer and better. But this is more likely to be found in the studio area. What is good, however, is that you can hear your voice and do not speak too loudly (adjustable over two levels) --> good for closed headsets.
Why buy?
The GSX 1000 is perfect for gaming - no more, no less. The feel and workmanship are great and the thing doesn't need any drivers! It couldn't be more uncomplicated. Simply adjust the settings in Windows according to the instructions and you're done. Profiles can be changed by a short tab depending on the saved profile. The GSX 1000 closes a gap that I didn't even know existed :-).
