waking up in the morning has never been so pleasant and beautiful

20-40 minutes before the set alarm time, the alarm clock switches on its built-in LED. It starts with a light red, orange and then turns into a bright yellow. At the programmed alarm time, the alarm tone sounds.

    5 natural
alarm sounds: birdsong, forest sounds, Zen garden, piano music, ocean sounds.

Dawn function 5 - 60 minutes. Fall asleep with gradually dimmed light and softer sounds.

An alarm clock of a different kind - or - I'm also a sleep aid - or - Attention, bedside lamp included

I received a Philips Wake up Light 3520 from Insiders for testing.

The display automatically adjusts to the ambient
light. So it is brighter during the day and darker at night. But I can set the basic brightness myself.

    Operation
It's pretty intuitive. I first tried it without the manual and got pretty far. But you find out the finesses by reading the manual. There are not many buttons (positioned around the unit) and therefore you can find their positions in the dark. The alarm button on the left and right, the light in the centre left, the radio on the right left. At the bottom of the clock you can set the alarm times and sounds.

    Read
Although it is an alarm clock, the integrated lamp is a perfect substitute for a bedside lamp and is ideal for reading a book.

    Falling asleep
After reading, you can turn on the sleep function and the light slowly (you can choose the duration) gets darker and darker until it turns orange. Very pleasant if you don't want to lie in a dark bedroom right away.
I also find it ideal for the children's room when children are afraid of the dark and are thus slowly accustomed to the darkness and sink peacefully into sleep.

    Waking up
20-40 minutes before the actual wake-up time, the light first starts to glow softly red/orange until it is completely bright.
The actual wake-up call is either the classic radio or one of the 5 natural sounds. I hear chirping now in the morning.
I don't have the feeling that I wake up differently - or better. I didn't have any trouble before. But I do notice that I am awake now and then even before the actual wake-up time. So I guess I was woken up gently.

All in all: something different and new.

    Pro

    • I like the design very much
    • I find natural tones and the gentle chirping very pleasant
    • I think the sleep function is great, especially for children.
    • I no longer need a bedside lamp and can read the books with the light of this alarm clock

    Contra

    • In the event of a power failure, I oversleep with this alarm clock. A definite disadvantage and that with this pre
    • A radio-controlled clock would be handy, but I don't know if that would cause radiation
    • Alarm clock is rather expensive (you don't need a bedside lamp for it)
