The MC-DC2 cable release makes it possible to release the shutter remotely even without battery power. In contrast, the wireless remote release with the ML-L3 has the disadvantage that the transmitter requires a battery. For use in astrophotography, the small button cells are unreliable on cold nights. The MC-DC2 cable release is clearly superior here! Works flawlessly with my D7000, even in "mirror-up" (MUp) setting with triggering twice.

Meets my requirements exactly. Light, compact and reliable in operation. The cable does not break even at minus 25 degrees Celsius. Would buy the product again...is definitely more reliable than the version with timer etc.
