Perfect function, why not include it as standard?

Actually, you can't judge lens hoods negatively: no matter how they are built, if they keep stray and lateral light away from the lens surface, they do their job perfectly. The only negative thing is that the Nikon 18-300 does not come with a hood. Now you can argue that people who buy a lens like this are not at home on the serious side of photography anyway, and that a lens like this is very price-sensitive, so you have to leave out everything that is not absolutely necessary, but that is not a good excuse: in my opinion, a lens hood always belongs with it. Otherwise, the lens is excellent, can be mounted upside down like most others to save space during transport (although it does not snap in as easily as more "professional" versions), and is practically indestructible thanks to its flexible plastic material. more
