Recommendation: After purchase, keep the package and stress test the first plate.

Great, received it yesterday, started the backup in the evening (everything ran wonderfully) and this morning the thing is broken, i.e. the hard disk still made a kind of grazing noise when plugged in.
    Instead of claiming
warranty, I took the unit apart. The construction is still classic, i.e. SATA interface + separate, separable controller. Apparently, it wasn't the controller that was the problem. The grazing noise also reappeared in the SATA dock.
I don't want to discourage anyone from buying it, I just recommend that you keep the package after buying it and that you first test the drive and do a complete disk test.

    No buy recommendation

Not a good hard drive because it cannot withstand continuous operation. Therefore unsuitable for NAS backups. I bought this so that I could back up a Synology NAS. WD Elements Portable have been doing this for years without any problems and they can easily withstand 24 hours of backup. This Maxtor, on the other hand, breaks down after just three hours. The first one even broke and stopped working. I could no longer format it for Windows. Digitec promptly replaced it. The second one also broke down after three hours. After 40 GB of copying, nothing worked. This grinding noise, which someone else also noticed, occurred with both hard drives. They don't sound like they are solid. Maybe they just overheat in their case. I don't know. In any case, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, even if the low price is appealing.

Addendum: The second one is also defective! The diagnostic tool that came with it gave an error message after a full check after an hour and you should return it. I have absolutely no more confidence in this product.

Great product with lots of space at a good price.

I am currently using it as extended storage for my PS4. Comes with a programme that makes formatting to other file systems (e.g. FAT 32) very easy. Have been able to install many games on it and have not experienced any problems so far. Great product with lots of space and at a good price! I can recommend it.
