Good idea, bad implementation, miserable picture

I bought the LG HF85JS Allegro at a great discount on Cyber Monday, hoping to replace my previous short-throw projector, the Optoma GT1080.

First, the positive: The device is really nice to look at and is once again much
closer to the wall than my previous Optoma (and my Sanyo before). It fits in well in any living room.

Unfortunately, the problems started shortly after the first startup. Already the setup wanted to work only after about 5 times on and off and switching between different languages and countries. At the same time, I immediately noticed the rather annoying noise of the fan. Unfortunately, the manufacturers simply build their beamers much too small, which is accompanied by too small, high-frequency fans. The problem is somewhat reduced in Eco mode, but the already low brightness is too dark even in a completely dark room.

The main problem is simply the picture quality. Compared to the Optoma, which is not even half as expensive, the quality is incomparably worse and not acceptable for me. The picture is not sharp anywhere and due to the wide-angle lens, the sharpness even drops significantly towards the edges. Also due to the wide angle, the picture has a slight fisheye effect (actually straight lines are curved). The colors are pale in the expert mode and especially in the standard mode cross-faded and not homogeneous (more yellowish at the edges). The brightness is also insufficient in a dark room. Despite the laser, black levels and contrast are worse than on the Optoma.
In addition, there is a rainbow effect that I have never noticed before in a projector. The image splits into the three primary colors every time the camera pans (which often happens in games). I have never noticed this before with any projector (my Optoma does not have this problem in the same scenes).

Another problem is the slow processor and the therefore only very sluggishly operable Smart TV capabilities. However, I only looked at Smart TV superficially, since it is not relevant for me. The speakers are also quite a joke, but that should be clear to everyone.

This should have been my third and so far most expensive short-throw beamer, due to the above problems I sent it back instead. I'm aware that what you're paying for here is primarily the ability to put the projector directly in front of the wall. Nevertheless, I have never seen such a bad picture even with the cheapest projectors. Unfortunately, absolutely not recommendable and a big disappointment.

Perfect, the only problem was the start-up....

The short-distance beamer is ingenious and fulfils its purpose exactly.
During commissioning, the licence conditions could not be confirmed. However, this is necessary for the full scope of use. After a little searching,
this could be done successfully with the following settings:
    - For the location, select Germany instead of Switzerland.
    - With this setting, the server was found and the licence conditions could be accepted.
    Have fun!
