    Highly recommended

When I buy a Macbook Pro, I think I also need a backup system to protect my files. I really liked the design of LaCie. The first time you use it, you plug the cable into the hard drive and Mac, and you are immediately guided to the setup screen. Here you are guided to a screen with 5 steps, e.g. first you are asked how to organise the hard disk. With a slider you determine whether you want to install as Mac, Windows or split Windows/Mac.
The Mac part must be big enough (must be bigger than the hard disk in the Mac; 256GB --> on the hard disk e.g. 400GB for Mac, and the rest (1600GB) you take as Windows storage, in my case I had many files from the old Windows system). "FAT32" or "NTFS" is the file system for Windows, and Mac OS Standard Mac OS Extended (this is nicely displayed in the slider). After the installation, the 1st backup is automatically carried out and be careful: only then should you complete the 5th steps in the underlying screen. Otherwise the installation will hang and be executed again (don't worry: LaCie is very flexible). Tip: Disk Encryption can no longer be activated via e.g. the "Disk Utility" programme as soon as you install without this option. I gave one to my girlfriend for Christmas. She was thrilled ;-). • Design
    • Size (this thing is clique small)
    • Speed
    • User-friendliness of the setup menu
    • Backup utility software is good
    • Disk encryption (very useful when travelling, no data theft possible if lost)
    • Partitioning is possible (e.g. Windows & Mac files stored next to each other)

    Contra

    • "Eject" command in the Finder must be used before dismounting the hard disk.

+ Very beautiful aluminium design + Because aluminium housing good...

    + Very beautiful aluminium design
+ Because the aluminium case has good passive cooling
+ USB3 connector holds "relatively" well (much better than the LaCie Rikiki)
+ Well visible but not too bright LED (also better than
    the LaCie Rikiki)

Connector is on the long side of the HD, not on the narrow side as is usually the case with such HDs.

    - Porsche is only the design, unfortunately not the performance. Only a "Toshiba MK1059 GSM" with 5400 rpm is installed (on my P'9220). LaCie doesn't officially give any information about the installed HD, but my Windows XP shows me ;-) -> approx. 80 MByte/s (a large one with 10 gByte tested from SSD)

    - For the price (159.- on 15.6.2012) I expect more performance in the form of a 7200 rpm. HD

    Does what it should!

Good brand! Runs smoothly with my MacBook Pro 13 Retina!
I think the split between the two systems, Windows and Apple, is great.
    80% Apple / 20% Windows
