An old product, a little redesigned: disappointing even if it works overall

I ordered this GPSMap 66st from Garmin and I am disappointed.

Garmin continues to sell old fashioned products that only have a new look and a few hardware improvements. The screens remain small. The software is very user
unfriendly and the device crashes from time to time. There is a plethora of functions that are not very useful (e.g. fishing), but it lacks indispensable functions, e.g. alerting you when you stray from a track (which is what most Apps on a Smartphone do, such as VisoRando). The connection to the smartphone for updates, loading of routes, retrieval of activities is an unreliable gas factory (requires 2 apps) and the synchronisation often crashes, or even forces to reset the device. Lastly, the technology being old, it consumes too much power and the autonomy is not very good unless you put yourself in Expedition mode, which cuts all the interesting functions. This is a real shame as a GPS can be far superior to a phone: autonomy, operation in rain and snow, no dependence on a non-existent GPRS network, rich functionality, drop resistance, all maps at hand, ability to change route on the fly, sunlight readable transreflective screen, etc.

Disappointed also by the obsolescence of Garmin products, I have just ordered a competitor GPS much more innovative and with much better characteristics for the same price TWONAV Cross (twonav.com/en/gps/cross). I would suggest to Digitec or Galaxus to add it to their stock. It is really missing.

I hope this comment will be useful to you, have a good ride.
