In addition to the X-Pro2, my Fuji equipment has always included a somewhat lighter and even handier camera from the X-Ex series.
Since the announcement of the X-E3, however, I was convinced never to buy a 'smartphone-like' camera like the X-E3 and thus to stay with my excellent, 'conventionally' operated X-E2s. I am definitely not part of the 'touch panel generation', although I too can handle an I-Pad or smartphone.
Many reviews focus on the new touch panel controls, giving the impression that 'conventional' menu navigation is a thing of the past with the X-E3.
The idea of triggering something unwanted with an unintentional movement on my camera was anathema to me.
... and yet it increasingly bothered me that the X-Pro2 with 24MP delivered much clearer and more accurate JPEG images at magnifications than the X-E2s with 16MP.
So I jumped over my shadow and ordered an X-E3.
Conclusion:
I turned off all the touch panel functions and lo and behold:
The X-E3 can be operated with the built-in joystick at least as well or even better and faster than with the previous 4-way switch! Great, problem solved!
The camera is small, light, handy, the image quality is excellent, no difference to the X-Pro2. Operation is also no problem for 'conventional' photographers.
However, the X-E3 is definitely more suitable for smaller and lighter lenses. (An 'XF-23mm f2' is ideal, for example).
As an accessory, Fujifilm offers the 'BLC-XE3' genuine leather half case, a beautifully crafted and perfectly fitting protection for the camera. A 'must have'!
The X-E3 is a real, lighter and cheaper alternative to the X-Pro2 for lighter lenses. Image quality is identical.
A convincing, handy and powerful camera that I can enthusiastically recommend with the limitations described!

Excellent compact camera. The quality of pictures is what I expect from a 24MP Fuji sensor, it fits in a small bag and I can carry it easily around with a small Fuji lens. Handling is nice, although I would recommend that camera manufacturer stop trying to make cameras as if these were mobile phones. A few simple deals and buttons are all what one needs. I see no point in introducing hundreds of options and features that nobody ever uses and make the life of even the experts miserable in trying to remember what they do and where they are.

I bought this camera as a "second body" to complement my X-T2. I dare say that there is hardly anything better in this size.
