    Ingenious monitor

Super monitor to work with. Much more comfortable than 2 smaller monitors, as it allows you to have 3 windows side by side, or a large Comfortable.
The built-in USB hub also allows KVM switching (keyboard / mouse) between
two computers depending on the selected video input (MacBook via USB-C, Workstation via USB / Displayport). As a bonus, it charges the MacBook directly via USB-C.

As a MacBook / MacBookPro user let the fingers of it.

When I was looking for a screen for my new MacBookPro (mid. 2018) was clear to me that it should be a Dell or Eizo erden because these had a good reputation.
After a long time back and forth I have then for this Dell screen
based on the several positive reviews on the internet. The screen ansich is actually also good but not in combination with an Apple notebook.

Who wants to buy this screen in combination with an Apple notebook and connect it via USB-C should delete this screen immediately from the mind.

This screen is constantly looking for connected sources as soon as the computer does not provide any visuals. Actually not bad but then it always interrupts the power supply and checks every connection again in a defined cycle. In this way, the MacBookPro is constantly disconnected from the mains and then supplied with power again.

I searched for it on the Dell support page and found it. Dell is aware of this problem but does not want to make any adjustments to the firmware of the monitor because supposedly this monitor was only optimized for use under Windows and not under OSX.

Dell pushes the blame of its failure to Apple and is not ready to make an adjustment so users of a MacBookPro look in the tubes.

Of course you can still use it but I had to experience myself what is the consequence, namely that after a year of use the battery of the MacBookPro was scraped. Costs for the replacement of such a battery by Apple or one of its providers CHF 800.00.

From 2018 it is not possible to replace only the battery but must also be replaced the entire aluminum top case.

In other words, this screen will sooner or later cause you a damage of several hundred francs if it is used with a MacBook.

Unfortunately I had to believe in it myself.
Now I will only use the monitor via Dvi to prevent the new battery from being destroyed, but this way I have neither charging of the notebook nor the usb ports of the monitor.

    Apropos connections of the monitor...
This monitor has usb3 ports, if you connect the computer via the usb3.1 interface then you only have a data transfer of USB2.0 at the USB3 ports because according to the manual this monitor is not able to transfer
both video and data at the same time.
To ensure this, the performance of the interface is downgraded to USB 2.0.

Never again another screen - the DELL is virtually perfect!

Wonderful monitor - exactly how I imagined it! With the DELL DisplayManager software you can easily place your windows. I used to work with 3 monitors and now everything is united in this U3818DW. The USB up/downstream also works perfectly and I can connect my other peripherals directly to the monitor.
In terms of ergonomics, it is also perfect; it can be aligned wonderfully in height and tilt, the "curve" also has a sufficiently large radius (not like Samsung!) and therefore does not require too much depth on the desk.

    Pro

    • Very well alignable
    • Stable stand, good quality
    • Very homogeneous illumination
    • Very good software (Display Manager)
    • Arrangement of windows works excellently
    • USB hub with "Power
    • chic design

    Contra

    • nothing, at most the price... as always ;-)
