Will I keep it? Yes, if I don't get head/eye problems after several weeks of work. Would I buy the monitor again? No, I would go for the BDM4350uc from Philips.

    Why two stars?

The monitor is not flicker free.
Even with the factory setting of 75% brightness it is no longer possible for me to work, the monitor flickers noticeably.
The flickering only disappears when the monitor
is operated at 100% brightness. This has now been confirmed by Dell. The fault lies with the built-in technology.
You can choose between a headache caused by the flickering and one caused by the content being too dazzling.
Fortunately, my work programmes are all very dark, so at the moment I can work with 100% brightness, but it remains to be seen how it will be in winter with less daylight.
I am disappointed with Dell, as we have several monitors from them and have never had problems of this kind. On top of that, the competing product from Philips, the BDM4350uc, is flicker-free and costs CHF 300 less.

    --UPDATE---

After installing the latest firmware update, the monitor no longer flickers!
Although I had to deal with Dell support x times during the summer and the problem was not solved, I expect at least that if it was fixed by a firmware update, Dell would also inform the customers about it.
I am correcting my rating to 4 stars and can highly recommend the monitor.

    Contra

    • Flickers with the factory settings, but can be fixed in the meantime with a firmware update
    • Dell support did not advise you on how to fix the problem.

    Desktop x 2

The firmware had already been updated.

In my opinion, the colours are the weak point on this piece - but maybe I have just got used to the great colours from the UltraSharp series.

The displayed image burns in. Very
quickly, in fact. However, you don't see any of this in normal use, it is only very faint, only visible on grey areas and it disappears after a few minutes.

The lack of backlighting at the edges is quickly forgotten during this pleasure. On the console, a character sometimes disappears in it, but you have to reckon with a 10% loss...
The top edge is completely visible (only the other 3 are affected), that is perhaps important to mention - if you want to have as little taskbar as I have (with my linux + awesome wm), it is worthwhile to place them at the top.

The picture itself is great, the speed is probably not so nice, but since I play on a virtual Windows, I'm probably not susceptible to it anyway - it's totally enough for me (especially since not every game runs at 60fps on every card when it comes to 4k).

The amount of space is insane, I have a decent window manager and am still totally messy with it (:

5 stars because it comes from the Professional series and also meets my unprofessional requirements (nice colours don't help the score when gaming anyway).

    Pro

    • Super fast switching between inputs
    • Has a lot of space on it
    • Customisable Shortcut Keys & DDM compatible
    • Contains enough cable

    Contra

    • Needs a lot of space
    • Darkened edges
    • No (or not directly) 4K via HDMI (so it only has 2 4K-capable inputs)

Pity for the edge illumination problem, otherwise a good monitor.

Very annoying uneven illumination around the edges, noticeable at normal viewing angles (looks like the shadow of the bezel, but it's the image itself that fades out).

The image quality is otherwise good, there is no visible
ghosting, very little color fringing and it is generally pleasant to work on.

Unlike smaller 4k monitors, the pixel size is just large enough to be able to work with older Windows application without scaling.
