Good board with very good VRM and stubborn RGB

On the whole, the x370-F is a very good motherboard that focuses on the essentials. simple, beautiful looks, all the necessary features, and most importantly, a really usable voltage converter unit. i got it back then for 150, which was great for the price.

the board is not very feature-packed. no POST-code display, no built-in power and reset buttons, only one m.2 slot. no plx chip, but that shouldn't be a big problem nowadays since multi-GPU is as good as dead anyway. instead of the POST code display you have 4 LED's, which tell you where the worm is if the board doesn't boot. with AMD the postcodes aren't as meaningful as with intel anyway, so it's not a big downgrade.

the really great thing about the board is the VRM. a real 6+2 phase layout, with 60 ampere powerstages per phase. so 360 ampere maximum, which corresponds to 500 watt at a ryzen-typical maximum voltage of approx. 1.4 volt. not even the new 16-core should need that in overclocked form, and with a 2700x you would still be in the green area without any problems even under liquid nitrogen. And then there are sensible VRM heat sinks, which are unfortunately still in short supply on AM4. so you can say that the x370-F is absolutely ready for the future, even if the future has 12 or 16 cores. Compatible BIOSes are already available from ASUS, but most likely the board will be delivered with a bios compatible for ryzen 2000 (this was the case for me), so for the BIOS update to ryzen 3000, a ryzen 1000 or 2000 processor is required.

About the bios: ASUS simply makes the best BIOS. the RAM timings section, which is important for ryzen, is huge, and i had no problems at all with RAM compatibility and overclocking. the bios was the main reason for me to choose this baord over the asrock taichi, even though the latter provides the best VRM of the whole platform.

it should be noted that ryzen very rarely works with RAM faster than 3466mhz. this is not a fault of the board, but a limitation of the memory controller in the processor. my samsung B-dies run at 3400 mhz and 12-13-12-27 timings.

my biggest criticism of the board is that the RGB lighting continues to glow when the PC is switched off. and not even as set in the software, but completely with rainbow animation. in the aura.software, you can set the board not to glow when it is switched off. however, the setting resets itself with every reboot. that's why i have switched the lighting off completely in the bios.

    Pro

    • VRM, VRM cooler, ,
    • Optics
    • BIOS, ryzen-3000 bios already available

    Contra

    • RGB settings are not retained.
    • power and reset button on the board would not have been too much of a good thing

my conclusion, I recommend it because it has a very good quality price ratio

it is very beautiful aesthetically but obviously it is great for Gaming
