  Photoshop Elements is an excellent tool and good value for money.

  Lightroom doesn't have layers and Photoshop CS is over the top for most non-professionals, so Elements is a cheap alternative which covers 95% of my needs; it misses "curves" and "clarity", but has almost everything else. Also the "Organiser", which allows very complex tagging and searching, is a very powerful tool for accessing images. (But I switch OFF all automatic tagging!)
  I usually buy every second edition, and purchased PSE-14 because I needed the latest version of Adobe "RAW" and because PSE-12 is incompatible with the latest version of Outlook. The "Catalog" updated without problems, and I can once again email reduced-size images. So far I have found very little difference to PSE-12, although there are minor (and annoying) changesto the GUI. Why do companies have to mess with things which work? more

  • Changes to the user interface (e.g. for clipping) are a pain
  • There are more features to help beginners which I don't need, but some people might find useful
