The Ubiquiti G6 Instant cannot be operated via the UniFi Protect App alone, without additional hardware. It requires at least one UniFi Console, such as an NVR, to function.
By default, the camera only records when motion is detected, but you can also activate continuous recording in the UniFi Protect system if desired. Recording then takes place either when motion is detected or around the clock, depending on the setting.
There is a privacy mode that allows you to hide certain areas in the image so that no recordings are made there. This is practical if, for example, you do not want a certain area of the room to be recorded.
To save the recordings, you need either a microSD card directly in the camera or a UniFi Protect Network Video Recorder (NVR) or a UNAS Pro. The camera supports both, but an NVR or UNAS Pro with UniFi Protect is required for remote access to the recordings.
You can access the recordings remotely via the UniFi Protect app as long as the camera is connected to an NVR or UNAS Pro. Without NVR/UNAS Pro, remote access to the recordings is not possible as the microSD card can only be read locally.
The UniFi G6 Instant Camera is not only designed for the cloud, but can also be connected locally to the UniFi Protect system. It is supported by the UniFi Protect platform, which enables local management while providing remote management via the cloud. Therefore, you can use it with UniFi Protect 5.3.45 and integrate it locally in an NVR.
