No, that only works directly with USB-C. Unfortunately, the DP connection only goes up to 4K. This means you need a newer Mac with USB-C outputs....

I bought an ASUS MB169C monitor from them. After connecting it to my laptop HP ProBook, the monitor cannot be switched on (lamp does not light up). The connection is via a USB-A to USB-C cable (USB port with power symbol). Do I need to connect via Displayport to USB-C? Which cable would be necessary?
