With this unit, only one external monitor can be operated at a time (HDMI or VGA).
For the simultaneous operation of two external monitors, I recommend the following (or a similar) product:

ICY BOX IB-DK2241AC - USB Type-A 3.0 Multi Dock (HDMI, DVI-I, USB Type A, USB Type B).
1. monitor connected with HDMI
2nd monitor connected with DV-I
Works well with Windows 10.

Somehow the HDMI and VGA outputs on this product don't work at the same time, so I can't project a dual monitor with this product. Am I doing something wrong, as the description explicitly states that the product can "enable a direct connection to a TV, projector or other monitor"? direct connection to a TV, projector or additional monitor" ?

You can only run one monitor with this Icy box, either via VGA or HDMI...
