PROBLEM WITH CLEANING Good day I bought the Hoya ND1000 filter a few months ago. The filter itself is actually tiptop, but: I have been involved in a feud with impurities ever since. Even wiping away dust with a cloth for cleaning glasses has left marks. The side of the filter that rests on the foam insert in the case also looked a bit battered all the time. However, since these "impurities" do not affect the photos, I hesitated to use more coarse weapons (water, window cleaner, eyeglass cleaner, etc.). But now I have a bigger problem. Because the foam insert in the filter housing kept falling out (especially troublesome in the wind), I fixed it a week ago with a few dabs of superglue. When I took the filter out again, both the housing and the filter itself were covered in a white layer that I can no longer remove. Since I had nothing more to lose anyway, I now also brought out the above-mentioned heavy artillery. As long as there was liquid on the filter, it looked nice and black, but as soon as the filter was dry again, the weals were back. Now my questions: 1. is it normal for an ND filter to be so prone to small contaminants (stains, weals)? To be honest, I don't even know what an ND filter is like. Is the whole glass dark, or is it normal white glass covered with a (seemingly sensitive) coating? I don't have these problems with the protective filter and the polarising filter, so it can't be (just) me... 2. is it possible that the superglue emits vapours that affect a filter to such an extent? 3. is the thing still salvageable, or should I not even worry about it, just order a new one and then just take a little better care? Thanks, bye and have a nice day!
