New batteries inserted, light on and the thing flickers from 30% brightness. I have since changed it to DOA and the new one even switches off after the flickering. Is this a joke? Does it need a special battery or am I just unlucky? In addition, the battery compartment doesn't fit properly, it works but it's really a "mess".

The thing doesn't flicker for me. But the battery compartment is really a mess. There is occasional loose contact with the shoe where the battery compartment is plugged in. I wouldn't buy it again!
