February 1945, climax of the fighting in the Pacific: Manila, capital of the Philippines, is occupied by the Japanese. It is now up to the American army to free the helpless inhabitants of the city and 2000 American prisoners of war. US infantry units have now surrounded Manila, but Japanese commander-in-chief Captain Murakimi (James Shigeta) refuses to surrender and threatens to target Manila's civilian population if the Americans do not withdraw. A US special command led by Colonel Bergen, the American Tank Force, is now to take the city overnight and end the state of siege.
