Description

The LUMIX G9 delivers a very fast image series at 20 fps (AFC) / 60 fps (AFS) in full 20.3 megapixel resolution. In addition to normal continuous shooting, the 6K/4K photo functions are available if required.

With the extraordinarily high magnification of approx. 1.66x / 0.83x (35mm KB), the LUMIX G9 also has a very large viewfinder. The viewfinder image works with high-speed serial exposures without dark phases. Night mode and an AF point magnifier function are also integrated.

For the first time on a LUMIX camera, a large, illuminated status display is also integrated at the top of the housing for faster camera control and easy adaptation for DSLR users. Image control on the back of the camera is provided by a rotatable and swivelling 7.5 cm LCD monitor in an aspect ratio of 3:2 with high-resolution 1.04 million pixels. The LUMIX G9 is equipped with a double SD card drive for fast UHS II cards for storing images.

The front and rear frames of the LUMIX G9 housing are made of magnesium alloy to ensure the best results even under the most adverse shooting conditions. In addition, the G9 has a dust- and splash-proof construction and is frost-proof down to -10ºC.

Thanks to the USB charging option, the camera is also independent of a fixed power supply. The LUMIX G9 offers Bluetooth and WiFi® connectivity for convenient wireless camera remote control and instant image sharing. Compatibility with Bluetooth 4.2, also known as BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), enables continuous connection to a smartphone or tablet with minimal power consumption. With WiFi, 5GHz (IEEE802.11ac) can be selected in addition to the conventional 2.4GHz (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) for an even more secure and stable connection.

Image sensor type

An image sensor is a device that converts an optical image to an electric signal. It is used mostly in digital cameras and other imaging devices. An image sensor is typically a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) active-pixel sensor.

i

ISO light sensitivity (auto)

The American Standards Association (ASA) and the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) film speed standards have been combined into the ISO standards. The current International Standard for measuring the speed of color negative film is ISO 5800:1987 from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Related standards ISO 6:1993 and ISO 2240:2003 define scales for speeds of black-and-white negative film and color reversal film. This system defines both an arithmetic and a logarithmic scale, combining the previously separate ASA and DIN systems.
Commonly, the logarithmic speed is omitted; for example, "ISO 100" denotes ISO 100/21°.

ISO light sensitivity (manual)
i

ISO light sensitivity (manual)

The ISO 5800 standard defines the light sensitivity of film material.
For both scales: the higher the number, the more light-sensitive the film. For linear ASA scaling, a double value corresponds to twice the sensitivity. In the logarithmic DIN scale, an increase of 3° corresponds to a doubling.
In photography, doubling the light sensitivity of the film material means that under given lighting conditions the exposure time can be halved to avoid camera shake or the lens can be closed one f-stop further to achieve a greater depth of field.

i

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

i

Contrast-based

Focusing by means of contrast measurement at contour edges is basically the same as focusing the eye, i.e. the photographer, without further aids: The image width of the lens is varied until the brightness curve at light/dark contour edges has a maximum steepness. The camera's processor calculates the frequency distribution in the image, and the greater the proportion of high frequencies (i.e. abrupt light-dark changes), the sharper the image.

Image file formats

Image file formats are standardized means of organizing and storing digital images. Image files are composed of either pixel or vector (geometric) data that are rasterized to pixels when displayed (with few exceptions) in a vector graphic display. The pixels that constitute an image are ordered as a grid (columns and rows); each pixel consists of numbers representing magnitudes of brightness and color.

JPEG

In computing, JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

JPEG compression is used in a number of image file formats. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web. These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG.

Battery-operated

A rechargeable battery or storage battery is a group of one or more electrochemical cells. They are known as secondary cells because their electrochemical reactions are electrically reversible. Rechargeable batteries come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging anything from a button cell to megawatt systems connected to stabilize an electrical distribution network. Several different combinations of chemicals are commonly used, including: lead-acid, nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH), lithium ion (Li-ion), and lithium ion polymer (Li-ion polymer).

Rechargeable batteries have lower total cost of use and environmental impact than disposable batteries. Some rechargeable battery types are available in the same sizes as disposable types. Rechargeable batteries have higher initial cost, but can be recharged very cheaply and used many times.
