Description

The D850's fast, extremely high-resolution FX format sensor offers an effective resolution of 45.7 megapixels for detailed 45.4 MP files. Printing of extremely high-resolution images in extra-large formats. Real full-frame films in 4K. The back-exposed CMOS image sensor does without an optical low-pass filter and has micro lenses integrated in the chip as well as an anti-reflective coating. Incident light hits the photodiodes more efficiently, giving you extraordinary detail and unique dynamic range. And the 153-field AF system adopted from the D5 provides the razor-sharp focusing and coverage you need for full-frame shooting at extremely high resolutions.

Breathtaking speed at 45.4 MP:
With this ultimate combination of speed, detail and precision, award-winning shots are possible. The continuous shooting rate is up to 9 frames/s at full resolution using optional accessories. Phenomenal autofocus.

Capture critical seconds with this unique combination of performance and endurance. The D850 records up to 7 frames/sec. With the optional multifunction handle MB-D18 and inserted battery of the EN-EL18 series (like D4, D4S, D5) even 9 frames/s are possible. This applies to full resolution images, including RAW (NEF). With the standard EN-EL15a battery, 1840 images are possible when charged (in "single-frame" shooting mode, according to CIPA standards). A special AF processor provides phenomenal scene recognition for fast shooting series: Even in difficult lighting conditions, you can follow fast-moving small subjects with remarkable precision. The autofocus system with 153 spot sizes incl. 99 cross sensors (as in the D5) works with unique precision and high light sensitivity up to -3 LW in all spot sizes. The center field of view even offers a sensitivity down to -4 EV (ISO 100, 20 °C), and the double memory card slot lets you use a UHS-II SD card and an XQD card at the same time.

Creative flexibility. Endurance. Precision. The D850 not only shows convincing performance - it completely redefines perfection. No matter what RAW image size - whether L (45.4 MP), M (25.6 MP), or S (11.4 MP) - you benefit from outstanding imaging performance. Both the camera and the optional multifunctional handle MB-D18 have an elaborate seal against weather influences. So you are prepared for everything on the road. It is also the first D-SLR ever to feature an integrated focus stacking mode for exceptionally sharp images with enormous depth of field.
Less text.

Increase the frequency. Don't bother waiting. The D850 provides optimized workflows thanks to high-speed data transfer and WLAN support.
The camera's USB 3.0 port allows fast transfer of large amounts of data, which is ideal for tethered shooting. If you need an ultra-fast wireless or Ethernet connection, you can combine the D850 with the optional WT-7A. With this wireless LAN adapter, files can be sent to an FTP server or computer at speeds of up to 866.7 Mbps. You can also quickly upload high-quality JPEG files to your social media stream or secure online gallery via SnapBridge. This is especially useful when you want to show a customer on the other side of the world the progress of a shoot. SnapBridge also makes it easy to geotag images.

ISO light sensitivity (auto)

The American Standards Association (ASA) and the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) film speed standards have been combined into the ISO standards. The current International Standard for measuring the speed of color negative film is ISO 5800:1987 from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Related standards ISO 6:1993 and ISO 2240:2003 define scales for speeds of black-and-white negative film and color reversal film. This system defines both an arithmetic and a logarithmic scale, combining the previously separate ASA and DIN systems.
Commonly, the logarithmic speed is omitted; for example, "ISO 100" denotes ISO 100/21°.

i

ISO light sensitivity (manual)

The ISO 5800 standard defines the light sensitivity of film material.
For both scales: the higher the number, the more light-sensitive the film. For linear ASA scaling, a double value corresponds to twice the sensitivity. In the logarithmic DIN scale, an increase of 3° corresponds to a doubling.
In photography, doubling the light sensitivity of the film material means that under given lighting conditions the exposure time can be halved to avoid camera shake or the lens can be closed one f-stop further to achieve a greater depth of field.

Camera lens properties

i

Camera lens properties

A camera lens (also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.
While in principle a simple convex lens will suffice, in practice a compound lens made up of a number of optical lens elements is required to correct (as much as possible) the many optical aberrations that arise. Some aberrations will be present in any lens system. It is the job of the lens designer to balance these out and produce a design that is suitable for photographic use and possibly mass production.
A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal lengths, apertures, and other properties.

Lens mount
i

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

Image stabilization
i

Image stabilization

Image stabilization (IS) is a family of techniques used to reduce blurring associated with the motion of a camera during exposure. Specifically, it compensates for pan and tilt (angular movement, equivalent to yaw and pitch) of a camera or other imaging device. It is used in image-stabilized binoculars, still and video cameras, and astronomical telescopes. With still cameras, camera shake is particularly problematic at slow shutter speeds or with long focal length (telephoto) lenses. With video cameras, camera shake causes visible frame-to-frame jitter in the recorded video. In astronomy, the problem of lens-shake is added to by variations in the atmosphere over time, which cause the apparent positions of objects to change.

Display properties

i

Display properties

A display device is an output device for presentation of information for visual, tactile or auditory reception, acquired, stored, or transmitted in various forms. When the input information is supplied as to electrical signal, the display is called electronic display. Electronic displays are available for presentation of visual, tactile and auditory information.

Display size
i

Display size

The size of a display is typically given as the distance between two opposite screen corners. One problem with this method is that it does not distinguish between the aspect ratios of monitors with identical diagonal sizes, in spite of the fact that a shape of a given diagonal span's area decreases as it becomes less square. For example, a 4:3 21" monitor has an area of ~211 square inches, while a 16:9 21" widescreen has an area of only ~188 square inches.

A touchscreen is a display which can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The term generally refers to touch or contact to the display of the device by a finger or hand. Touchscreens can also sense other passive objects, such as a stylus. However, if the object sensed is active, as with a light pen, the term touchscreen is generally not applicable. The ability to interact directly with a display typically indicates the presence of a touchscreen.

Viewfinder

In photography, a viewfinder is what the photographer looks through to compose, and in many cases to focus, the picture. Most viewfinders are separate, and suffer parallax, while the single-lens reflex camera lets the viewfinder use the main optical system. Viewfinders are used in many cameras of different types: still and movie, film, analog and digital. A zoom camera usually zooms its finder in sync with its lens, one exception being rangefinder cameras.

Focusing

i

Focusing

In geometrical optics, a focus, also called an image point, is the point where light rays originating from a point on the object converge. Although the focus is conceptually a point, physically the focus has a spatial extent, called the blur circle. This non-ideal focusing may be caused by aberrations of the imaging optics. In the absence of significant aberrations, the smallest possible blur circle is the Airy disc, which is caused by diffraction from the optical system's aperture. Aberrations tend to get worse as the aperture diameter increases, while the Airy circle is smallest for large apertures.

Image file formats are standardized means of organizing and storing digital images. Image files are composed of either pixel or vector (geometric) data that are rasterized to pixels when displayed (with few exceptions) in a vector graphic display. The pixels that constitute an image are ordered as a grid (columns and rows); each pixel consists of numbers representing magnitudes of brightness and color.

In computing, JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

JPEG compression is used in a number of image file formats. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web. These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG.

RAW support

A camera raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of either a digital camera, image scanner, or motion picture film scanner. Raw files are named so because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed or edited with a bitmap graphics editor. Normally, the image is processed by a raw converter in a wide-gamut internal colorspace where precise adjustments can be made before conversion to a "positive" file format such as TIFF or JPEG for storage, printing, or further manipulation, which often encodes the image in a device-dependent colorspace. There are dozens if not hundreds of raw formats in use by different models of digital equipment (like cameras or film scanners).[1]

A rechargeable battery or storage battery is a group of one or more electrochemical cells. They are known as secondary cells because their electrochemical reactions are electrically reversible. Rechargeable batteries come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging anything from a button cell to megawatt systems connected to stabilize an electrical distribution network. Several different combinations of chemicals are commonly used, including: lead-acid, nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH), lithium ion (Li-ion), and lithium ion polymer (Li-ion polymer).

Rechargeable batteries have lower total cost of use and environmental impact than disposable batteries. Some rechargeable battery types are available in the same sizes as disposable types. Rechargeable batteries have higher initial cost, but can be recharged very cheaply and used many times.

Customer questions and answers

The 3 most helpful customer questions

User jolenkaf

Hallo. 1.
