Lexmark MarkNet N8352 802.11b/g/n WLAN-Druckserverkit

Description

Wireless freedom
Use your devices where they are needed. The choice of printer location depends on functional and economic aspects and not on existing LAN connections.

Simple setup
LAN and WLAN environment. Configure the devices with a USB cable or wirelessly.

A print server for connection to most popular WLANs via the 2.4 GHz band with an RP-SMA connection including antenna.

Embedded Website
The embedded web page allows administrators to update the printer firmware or access printer settings with a web browser to quickly and easily monitor printer status and change default settings.

Secure network communication
SNMPv3 supports the management of encrypted and authenticated network data to protect remote configurations and device status messages. IPSec can be used in both IPv4 and IPv6 TCP/IP networks and enables encryption and authentication of data communication at network level.

Wi-Fi

A wireless local area network (WLAN) links two or more devices using some wireless distribution method (typically spread-spectrum or OFDM radio), and usually providing a connection through an access point to the wider Internet. This gives users the mobility to move around within a local coverage area and still be connected to the network.

WPA2-PSK

The advanced protocol, certified through Wi-Fi Alliance's WPA2 program, implements the mandatory elements of 802.11i. In particular, it introduces a new AES-based algorithm, CCMP, that is considered fully secure. From March 13, 2006, WPA2 certification is mandatory for all new devices wishing to be certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance as "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED." PSK means that it is only for Pre-Shared-Key mode.

WPA2-EAP

WPA2-EAP

Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) is the implementation of a security standard for wireless networks according to the WLAN standards IEEE 802.11a, b, g and n and is based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). It is the successor of WPA, which is based on Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), which is now considered unsafe. WPA2 implements the basic features of the new IEEE 802.11i security standard.

EAP - Extensible Authentication Protocol RFC 3748 (Request for Comments) is a general authentication protocol developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) that supports various authentication methods (such as user name/password (RADIUS), electronic certification, SIM (Subscriber Identity Module), etc.). EAP is often used for access control in WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) networks.

USB 2.0 type A
i

USB 2.0 type A

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial bus standard to interface devices. USB was designed to allow many peripherals to be connected using a single standardized interface socket and to improve the plug-and-play capabilities by allowing devices to be connected and disconnected without rebooting the computer (hot swapping). Other convenient features include providing power to low-consumption devices without the need for an external power supply and allowing many devices to be used without requiring manufacturer specific, individual device drivers to be installed.
The Mini-B, Micro-A, Micro-B , and Micro-AB connectors are used for smaller devices such as PDAs, mobile phones or digital cameras. The Standard-A plug is approximately 4 by 12 mm, the Standard-B approximately 7 by 8 mm, and the Micro-A and Micro-B plugs approximately 2 by 7 mm.

Wi-Fi standard
802.11b
i

802.11b

802.11b has a maximum raw data rate of 11 Mbit/s and uses the same media access method defined in the original standard. 802.11b products appeared on the market in early 2000, since 802.11b is a direct extension of the modulation technique defined in the original standard. The dramatic increase in throughput of 802.11b (compared to the original standard) along with simultaneous substantial price reductions led to the rapid acceptance of 802.11b as the definitive wireless LAN technology.

802.11g
i

802.11g

This works in the 2.4 GHz band (like 802.11b) but operates at a maximum raw data rate of 54 Mbit/s, or about 19 Mbit/s net throughput. 802.11g hardware is fully backwards compatible with 802.11b hardware.

,
802.11n
i

802.11n

802.11n is a proposed amendment which improves upon the previous 802.11 standards by adding multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and many other newer features. Though there are already many products on the market based on Draft 2.0 of this proposal, the TGn workgroup is not expected to finalize the amendment until November 2008.

Lexmark MS517dn "wireless" printer is not wireless until you buy this extra gadget.

Was very disappointed to need this module when I expected the Lexmark MS517dn "wireless" printer to be just that, wireless out of the box.
