The G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 was almost over. In the Diaz Pascoli School, where the Social Forum for Journalists was set up, the young people were in good spirits - despite the violent confrontations with the police in the days before. As in other countries, the anti-globalization protests were accompanied by massive police operations this year. But nothing could have prepared the temporary inhabitants of the Diaz School, mainly young women and men from all over Europe, for the following. Shortly after midnight, the police stormed the school and hit the young people with immense brutality for over two hours, until almost all of them ended up in hospital and later in remand. To justify their actions, the police planted Molotov cocktails in the building. At the end of the G8 summit a man had lost his life.
