The keyboard, to be called an insider's tip in the scene, is a trademark of the Metadot Corporation and produces under the German-English name combination (this "foreign branding" is often used for premium products to emphasize the uniqueness) very high quality and innovative mechanical keyboards. Based in Austin, Texas, the company has been producing groundbreaking, optimized technology for everyday use in the input device segment since 2005 and is consistently praised by the trade press.
The current revision of Das Keyboard 4 complements the very successful model series S (keyboard 3) with useful features. The mechanical keyboard has been upgraded in appearance and function and represents a particularly high-quality and flexible solution for players as well as office users. The characteristic appearance with the chassis widened in the Num block still shows the brand affiliation immediately. Newly added are multimedia keys, the aluminium finish of the top cover and a modern USB 3.0 hub.
The design and function of the media keys are well thought-out and in the form of microswitches with a good pressure point and minimal stroke. The USB hub of the Das Keyboard 4's USB hub is no longer attached to the side of the keyboard, but to the rear of the keyboard - this makes cable routing easier. The connection via USB 3.0 supplies connected devices with high bandwidth (up to 5 Gbps) and supplies up to 900 mA current. The elegant feel and the slight latching of the volume-turning wheel enable direct and precise control of the volume function.
With Das Keyboard 4, the connection to the surface is made by a magnetic baseboard instead of the usual plastic feet, which also serves as a ruler. This enables a secure hold and an ideal installation angle of 4 degrees. Metadot relies on a total of 14 connecting points to unite the aluminium upper shell and the plastic chassis. This measure and the cohesion of PCB and chassis with nine screws have a noticeable effect on the writing feel, reduce the volume when typing and underline the high quality of workmanship.
The keycaps of the keyboard are labelled in the "laser engraving"process and are therefore particularly durable. The add-on function of 100% anti-ghosting with full key rollover - i. e. all keys are recognized at the same time via USB - and the lightning-fast sampling rate of 1 ms (1,000 samples per second) is taken over by the Nuvoton Nuvoton keyboard 4 with its Cortex M0 processor and ensures that the keyboard can cope with any requirement - whether in hot battles or complicated sequences of keys in the workplace.
The Keyboard 4 uses mechanical Cherry-MX-Switches of different variants, whereby the offered version uses Cherry's tactile MX-Brown, which with their light resistance gives noticeable feedback of the contact release, but also allows multiple clicks in quick succession and therefore represents the ideal compromise between gaming and writing. At the same time, the process remains silent, i. e. no click noise is triggered and thus the office peace is not endangered.
The variant offered here is the DE version in the Professional version, i. e. equipped with 105 keys with inscription in QWERTY layout and five additional multimedia keys.…more
