Canon EOS 1Dx Mark II (20.20MP, 16FPS, GPS)

Description

At the heart of the EOS-1D X Mark II is a CMOS sensor developed by Canon that marks a whole new generation of professional image quality in the EOS series. With the ability to capture even more light and convert it into a dual signal, this sensor offers extremely high sensitivity and reduces image noise at both very low and very high ISO settings, enabling the display of fine details even in dark image areas.

An extended focus range with 61 directly selectable AF fields, including 41 cross sensors and 5 dual cross sensors gives you the greatest flexibility in focusing and thus in image composition. Together with the latest AI Servo AF III+ and the improved EOS iTR (EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition System), the EOS-1D X Mark II offers extremely precise autofocus for incredibly sharp images.

The EOS-1D X Mark II also sets new standards when it comes to continuous shooting: up to 14 fps at full AF/AE tracking and up to 16 fps in Live View mode. This is due to the high-speed image processing of the Digic 6+ processors and a new mirror drive system. With the CFast 2.0 memory card, the camera records continuous shooting with up to 170 uncompressed 14-bit RAW images.

The 4K resolution brings stories to life. Record to the internal CFast 2.0 memory card (recommended) in 4K (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) at up to 60 fps or in Full HD at up to 120 fps for creative slow motion recording. You can focus precisely and easily via the touch screen LCD. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides amazing focus tracking during video recording and in Live View mode - with full compatibility to all Canon EOS EF lenses.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and Gigabit connectivity over LAN or with the optional WFT-E8 over Wlan give any workflow high flexibility. With the integrated GPS receiver, the camera time can be automatically adjusted to the respective local time via a global network of GPS satellites. Internal camera functions for image cropping and resizing allow you to send the image exactly as you want it without a PC.

Image sensor resolution

The image sensor resolution results from the number of pixels in millions. For most applications, a resolution of 12-16 megapixels is sufficient. A higher resolution has advantages, especially in post-processing, as more image information is available.

Image sensor type

An image sensor is a device that converts an optical image to an electric signal. It is used mostly in digital cameras and other imaging devices. An image sensor is typically a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) active-pixel sensor.

CMOS

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) is a term for semiconductor devices that use both p-channel and n-channel MOSFETs on a common substrate. CMOS technology refers to both the semiconductor process used to realize integrated digital and analog circuits and a logic family. CMOS technology is the most widely used logic family today and is mainly used for integrated circuits.

ISO light sensitivity (auto)

The American Standards Association (ASA) and the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) film speed standards have been combined into the ISO standards. The current International Standard for measuring the speed of color negative film is ISO 5800:1987 from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Related standards ISO 6:1993 and ISO 2240:2003 define scales for speeds of black-and-white negative film and color reversal film. This system defines both an arithmetic and a logarithmic scale, combining the previously separate ASA and DIN systems.
Commonly, the logarithmic speed is omitted; for example, "ISO 100" denotes ISO 100/21°.

ISO light sensitivity (manual)
i

ISO light sensitivity (manual)

The ISO 5800 standard defines the light sensitivity of film material.
For both scales: the higher the number, the more light-sensitive the film. For linear ASA scaling, a double value corresponds to twice the sensitivity. In the logarithmic DIN scale, an increase of 3° corresponds to a doubling.
In photography, doubling the light sensitivity of the film material means that under given lighting conditions the exposure time can be halved to avoid camera shake or the lens can be closed one f-stop further to achieve a greater depth of field.

Lens mount
i

Lens mount

A lens mount is an interface — mechanical and often also electrical — between a photographic camera body and a lens. It is confined to cameras where the body allows interchangeable lenses, most usually the single lens reflex type or any movie camera of 16 mm or higher gauge. Lens mounts are also used to connect optical components in instrumentation that may not involve a camera, such as the modular components used in optical laboratory prototyping which join via C-mount or T-mount elements.

Phase-based
i

Phase-based

The older passive method is phase comparison, a method that is more complex and also requires an additional sensor, but in principle requires less computing power and can also determine the focusing direction with the first measurement.
The method is derived from the purely optical split image indicator, an aid that was already used as an accessory in the purely mechanical cameras of the 1960s. In the center of the focusing screen, which was viewed through the viewfinder, two unmatted halves of the circle were attached so that two fields moved towards each other during manual focusing until they finally fitted exactly together during focusing. When the first phototransistors and microchips were available, it was only a matter of time before two sensor lines were constructed from them, which could judge the position of the two fields at vertical edges.

CompactFlash (CF) is a mass storage device format used in portable electronic devices. For storage, CompactFlash typically uses flash memory in a standardized enclosure. The format was first specified and produced by SanDisk in 1994. The physical format is now used for a variety of devices. The Compact Flash storage medium was made popular for its use in digital cameras. In recent years it has been widely replaced by secure digital cards on the consumer end but is still preferred for D-SLR cameras for their superior capacity, size and reliability.

Image file formats

Image file formats are standardized means of organizing and storing digital images. Image files are composed of either pixel or vector (geometric) data that are rasterized to pixels when displayed (with few exceptions) in a vector graphic display. The pixels that constitute an image are ordered as a grid (columns and rows); each pixel consists of numbers representing magnitudes of brightness and color.

JPEG

In computing, JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

JPEG compression is used in a number of image file formats. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web. These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG.
