Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 – the newest tablet from Korea

In March 2017, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S3. Today, right on time for the Swiss National Day, the Korean manufacturer is releasing its new 10.5-inch tablet, the S4, which is equipped with a range of features and application possibilities. Which ones? Read on to find out. Here's my release summary for you.

Samsung is promoting the new Galaxy Tab S4 tablet with a promising claim: «Office and cinema on the go». These keywords represent its features quite well. Compared to its predecessor, the new Tab is equipped with a larger display – 10.5 instead of 9.7 inches – and improved resolution. With 2560×1600 pixels and 16 million colours, this Android tablet is sure to offer crisp images.

Work, work, work

Its size and DEX mode compatibility are what makes the Galaxy S4 suitable for the office. DEX was previously only available on the smartphones Galaxy S8, S8+, Note 8 and Galaxy S9, S9+. Now, it's easy to set up your workstation with the Tab S4 and control it via the dock. You travel a lot and would like to use your tablet with 4G? No problem, there's a 4G enabled version of the Galaxy S4, too.

More battery power, more storage capacity

While the predecessor model had a capacity of 6000 mAh, the Tab S4 has been upgraded: It comes with a 7300 mAh battery and Adaptive Fast Charging. Improved battery power in combination with its larger display result in the S4 weighing 83 grams more than the S3 – 483 grams in total. What's also worth mentioning is the storage capacity: While the Tab S3 came with 32 GB fixed and 256 GB expandable memory, this new model boasts 64 GB fixed and 400 GB expandable memory. Good news for anyone who loves collecting large amounts of data.

Processor upgrade

The core part of the Tab S3 has been replaced and upgraded for the S4. The days of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 are over; now it's time for the 835, the latest chip made by Qualcomm. After taking a step back to four processor cores for the 820, the 835 is equipped with eight cores: Four are responsible for maximum performance with a clock rate of up to 2.45 GHz while the other four perform at 1.9 GHz.

Painting, scribbling, writing

The Samsung S Pen offers you, as other tablet brands do, the possibility to put pen to tablet, so to speak. Samsung takes this technology to the point where you can use the pen to take quick notes without even switching on the tablet. Get out your pen, write down what you want to and save your notes. The pen is also said to work for simple PDF editing tasks. In addition, Samsung's Notes app offers handwriting recognition and drawing tools. Give free rein to your productivity and creativity! By the way, the S- Pen never needs to be charged.

Key features

  • Android 8.1 (Oreo)
  • 16:10 Super AMOLED display
  • 2560×1600 WQXGA (287 ppi) resolution
  • 7300 mAh with Adaptive Fast Charging
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 64 GB storage, extendable by up to 400 GB
  • DEX mode – turn your tablet into a PC
  • Iris scanner and face recognition
  • Quad speakers with Dolby ATMOS
  • Intelligent S Pen included
  • Rear camera with 13 MP; front camera with 8 MP

Was soll man dazu noch sagen.

User Andrea Jacob
