Trailer Tuesday: The Mandalorian, The Witcher and Jumanji 2

After one week of abstinence, «Star Wars» returns to Trailer Tuesday – as a series. Looks darn good. Meanwhile, the trailer of «The Witcher» promises to become Netflix's next big thing.

If you were too busy getting scared (or scaring others) at Halloween parties last week instead of watching the latest movie and series trailers, don’t worry: I’m happy to help. Here are the five hottest trailers of last week.

The Mandalorian

I wouldn't be surprised if «The Mandalorian» became the best Disney has done with «Star Wars» since they bought it from George Lucas in 2012 for over $4 billion. What the trailer reveals looks like «Star Wars», sounds like «Star Wars» and makes me eager to watch – «Star Wars».

No wonder: with a production budget of 15 million dollars per episode, the two executive producers Dave Filoni, known for «Clone Wars» and «Rebels», and Jon Favreau, the likeable driver of Tony Stark in Marvel's «Iron Man», had the chance to spend big. And the first reactions promise a «fucking awesome» series.

I'm hereby officially hyped. How about you?

Start date: 12 November 2019, Disney Plus

Knives Out

Director Ryan Johnson is a man who divides critics and audiences. «Star Wars: The Last Jedi» is the best example for this. While the film caused a storm of enthusiasm among critics and film journalists, couldn’t have agreed less and seemed to want to ban him from Hollowood.

In a way, they have: Johnson's latest project, «Knives Out», a black comedy mystery film, feels like anything but a typical Hollywood production. Not surprisingly, the critics love the film. And the trailer reminds us of this every few seconds. Thanks. The question is whether the audience will love Johnson’s work this time.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 27 November 2019

Jumanji: The Next Level

I admit it, I haven't seen the first part yet. I don't want to ruin the franchise for myself. A franchise that, in my opinion, isn't necessary because the original Jumanji with Robin Williams is perfect enough. Do we really need to see Kevin Hart and Jack Black fool around? Or, as my colleague Kevin would say, Mr I'm-in-every-darm-movie-since-2013, Dwayne The Rock Johnson?

Hmm. If there is a part 2, that means part 1 made good money. In fact, the 2017 «Jumanji» has fairly reasonable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Oh well, I guess I'll have to give it a fair chance after all.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 13 December 2019

The Witcher

Impressive. Rather impressive, this second trailer. Probably because it draws a much more concrete picture of what the series will look and feel like. And that without giving too much away. I like it. And as things look, «The Witcher» could actually become Netflix's next big thing after «Stranger Things».

"The Witcher" on Netflix: content, release date and other revelations

    by Luca Fontana

Ah yes: I’m beginning to like Henry Cavill more and more in the role of the grumpy Geralt of Rivia with white hair and yellow eyes.

Start date: 20 December 2019, Netflix

The Grudge

A trailer Tuesday without a remake? We almost made it. But here’s the next chapter in Hollywood's lack of ideas: «The Grudge».

This time it’s a man, actor John Cho, who gets the chance to scare us in the iconic shower scene. It remains to be seen whether the film will actually be just a collection of cheap jump scares – as the trailer might suggest – or whether it’s actually creepy. I’m not convinced.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 3 January 2020

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
