Meet the Xperia 5 II

Camera and video: the Alpha cameras

Sony's Alpha cameras are known worldwide. The Xperia 5 II makes use of the iconic camera’s technology and you get to enjoy the speed – because sometimes, taking the perfect photo comes down to a fraction of a second. The triple camera with Zeiss lenses gives you high quality images with additional Zeiss T-coating, so you get less reflection and a balanced contrast. This is also great for portrait photography. Sony's special feature is the eye autofocus, which makes sure that people and animals always turn out nice and sharp. You can also use the continuous shooting mode to take professional pictures with up to 20 frames per second, autofocus and automatic exposure. Here are the exact lense specifications:

  1. Camera: 12 megapixel resolution, size 1/1.7" Exmor RS for mobile sensors, aperture f1.7, focal length 24 mm, viewing angle 82°
  2. Camera: 12 megapixel resolution, size 1/3.4", aperture f2.4, focal length 70 mm, viewing angle 34°
  3. Camera: 12 megapixel resolution, size 1/2.55" Exmor RS for mobile sensors, aperture f2.2, focal length 16 mm, viewing angle 124°

These specs also make the Xperia 5 II great for video recording. This smartphone is packed with neat software that gives you tools such as colour management presets, 21:9 movie recording and 4K HDR video recording at 24, 25, 30, 60 and 120 fps. So, you can create detailed slow-motion recordings. Manage to catch something funny on video? Share it with us on Instagram or Facebook.

Sounds are the big topic here

DSEE Ultimate, 360 Reality Audio, Tidal Music – Sony has also put features in this device for audio lovers. The Xperia 5 II has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a feature beloved by the community. This connector gives you a clear sound audio is split into the left and right channels. According to Sony, this can reduce the signal noise down to 20 dB, so it’s hardly noticeable anymore.

Now from hardware to software. With DSEE Ultimate, you can optimize your digital music. This AI’s sole purpose is to scale compressed music files to higher quality. This happens in real time to get the music quality as close as possible to the high-resolution audio file. This happens whether you use wireless or wired headphones. It doesn't matter if you listen to locally stored music or via streaming services.

360 Reality Audio software that allows you to perceive audio in 360°. Sounds that surround you as if you were in the middle of it all. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it sounds really interesting, so I’ve put it on my to-do list. And how is this supposed to work? Through spatial audio technology. This allows individual sounds, i.e. vocals, piano, guitar and basses, to be introduced into a spherical 360° sound field. Sounds like a right audio experience. I'll definitely test it out. This all-round concert feeling opens up new creative options for artists. Basically, artists can play with audio architecture. Of course, not everybody offers this, and it demands quite large volumes of data volumes. That’s why there are rather few streaming services with this offer, at least for the time being. To be precise, there’s deezer, and Tidal. On the latter platform, owned by none other than Jay-Z himself, you get to listen to compression-free music – and it’s free for the first three months when you buy the Xperia 5 II. P.S: To avoid being corrected in the comments, I would like to add that Jay Z is, of course, not Tidal’s only shareholder. These prominent musicians also hold shares: Beyoncé, Prince, Rihanna, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Jack White, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Usher, deadmau5, Nicki Minaj and J. Cole.

Optimised for «Call of Duty»

Gaming. Sony. As you’d expect, right? Congratulations to those who were able to get hold of a PS5. If you want to bridge the waiting time, you can do so with mobile gaming. Mount the Xperia 5 II on the DualShock 4 and play. Here, too, the 21:9 aspect ratio wins – you simply see more. By the way, the native refresh rate of the OLED display is 120 Hz. It also comes with 240 Hz motion blur reduction. Nice and spicy!

Sony is delivering the official smartphone of the «Call of Duty» competition with the Xperia 5 II. At the moment, the competition is in the regional playoffs. For Western Europe, you can stream live here from 17.-18.10.2020. «Call of Duty» is optimized on the Sony Xperia 5 II with Snapdragon Elite Gaming.
