It doesn't always have to be a thousand franc elite smartphone. These days there are more than a few very high-performing phones for under 300 francs. And here are just a few of them. You can find a table to compare all phones at the end of this article.

I often write and report about high-priced smartphones. But what's actually going on around the 300-franc level? A price range that's currently getting hounded from all sides by various manufacturers. Be you a small company trying to find a cheap solution to outfit your employees with or a user only looking for a basic, functional and stable device, this range has you covered. Today, I'll really be focusing on all the «small» things.

Wiko

Dominik Bärlocher is an avowed fan of the Wiko brand. Their specs shouldn't be underestimated either. Want a 128 GB phone with 6 GB of RAM and a triple cam for under 300 francs? Wiko has you covered. Some advice: I really like the colour gradients on the Pro series. Find a comparison here.

Gigaset

Only know Gigaset as a home phone provider? Then let me tell you, they do also make smartphones. And they're pretty neat. In some cases, they're even «Made in Germany». The handily-sized GS280 has a surprisingly mighty battery, able to easily avoid long charging periods. Furthermore, there's expandable memory, a single cam, USB-C and a headphone connection.

Samsung

What's this? This smartphone shouldn't really be in this category. The brand-new outdoor XCover 4S has to follow up the incredibly successful XCover 4. The A40 is a part of Samsung's newest impressive line-up of devices. Find a comparison here.

Nokia

Nokia launched a new line-up this year, replacing their older popular models. The two newest devices under 300 francs are the 4.2 and the 2.2. The 2.2 has a remarkable removable back cover. Find a comparison here.

Motorola Moto G7 Series

The battery life of the Moto G7 Power almost knocks you over. And at that price. In addition, both surprise with an expandable memory up to 1 TB. Find a comparison here.

Huawei Y Series

The Y-Series has really made a name for itself and the drop notch on the Y7 looks really nice. The large display has high colour saturation, the 4,000 mAh battery works well, the 512 GB expandable memory unit is sufficient and Face Unlock is, of course, included. Find a comparison here.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi likes to stand out with its inexpensive mobile phones, especially the Redmi series. The Note 7 is nearly unreal. The Chinese brand really included a 48 MP + 5 MP dual cam and a bunch of AI benefits. Battery, memory and the physical size can't be ragged on either. The Redmi 7 isn't that strong when it comes to its specs, but it still offers a strong battery and memory unit for its price. Find a comparison here.

Meizu

Not a lot of people have heard of Meizu. Meizu is a Chinese company founded in 2003 that was actually a strong contender in the MP3 player business. Smartphones were added to their inventory in 2008. The 15 Lite is almost rimless (at least in width), has a 20 MP Selfie-Cam, Face Unlock and still includes the classic fingerprint sensor as a home button.
